Get Your ID Card

ID Cards are issued by the Computing Services Help Center. The first ID Card for students, faculty, staff, and emeriti/retiree faculty and staff is issued at no charge, while Sponsored ID Cards for eligible individuals are issued for a fee.

First-time cardholders may submit an ID photo online; however, photos for card renewals and replacements must be taken in the Computing Services Help Center.

New ID Cards are coming this summer. Faculty/staff distribution begins June 16!  Learn More

Students

All enrolled students are entitled to an ID Card.

During the summer, new students will be instructed to submit an ID photo online. Students who do not submit a photo by the deadline will need to visit the Computing Services Help Center upon arriving to campus to have a photo taken and an ID Card produced.

Note: Orientation and the beginning of each semester are peak times in the Computing Services Help Center, so lines may be long. Students should plan their schedules accordingly.

First-Year Undergraduate Card Distribution

First-year undergraduate students who submit their ID photo by the deadline (usually the beginning of July) will receive their ID Card in one of the following ways:
  • Students with a U.S. permanent address will receive their ID Cards via mail before they arrive on campus.
  • Students with an international permanent address will pick up their ID Cards on move-in day.

New Graduate Student Card Distribution

New graduate students who submit their photo by the deadline will receive their ID Card from their department. Distribution processes vary, so students should contact their departments after August 1 for instructions and details.
While most student ID Card expiration dates are tied to graduation dates, some students may need to replace an expiring card for various reasons (e.g., a graduation date change or additional semesters).

Students may replace an ID Card up to one month before the expiration date printed on the ID Card by visiting the Computing Services Help Center to have a new photo taken and a new ID Card produced. The current/expiring ID Card must be surrendered when the replacement card is printed; otherwise, a $30 lost card fee will apply.

Note: Students who graduate and begin a new program (i.e., graduating with an undergraduate degree and entering a Master's program) must follow the guidelines for new students. Expired cards cannot be renewed until August 1 for fall arrivals.

Faculty & Staff

Faculty and staff may obtain an ID Card once they are entered in Workday. This includes Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) faculty and Temporary Employment Services staff.

New faculty and staff members may either submit an ID photo online or visit the Computing Services Help Center, on or after their start date, to have a photo taken and an ID Card produced. The Computing Services Help Center is located on the first floor of Cyert Hall. A government-issued photo identification (driver's license or passport) must be presented.

All faculty and staff ID cards have a four-year expiration from the date they are printed. However, the card's functionality is linked to the employee's Workday record. Although your card may still work, it is essential to replace it as soon as possible. We strongly recommend that faculty and staff with expiring cards visit theComputing Services Help Center. to renew them. This will ensure that the card's technology is up to date, that the "tap" functionality operates correctly, and, for security purposes, that the card features a new photo.

An ID Card may be renewed at any time up to one month before its expiration date.

Employees terminating employment must return their ID card to a supervisor. Supervisors should then return the collected cards to Human Resources.

If you are re-hired and did not return your ID card at the end of your previous employment, you must bring your most recent ID card to the Computing Services Help Center upon your re-hire. If you fail to do this, you will incur a $30 lost card fee.

Emeriti faculty and retired faculty/staff members are eligible for an ID card, which must be renewed every four years. Before an ID card can be issued, the individual's status must be confirmed by 无码专区 Works, either through the 无码专区 directory or by sending an email to idplus@andrew.cmu.edu.

Lost, Stolen, or Damaged ID Cards

It is critical to notify the Computing Services Help Center of lost or stolen cards as soon as possible to prevent unauthorized access to facilities and funds. Students can temporarily deactivate an ID Card by logging into SIO and reporting the card as lost or stolen.

To obtain a replacement ID Card, the cardholder must maintain card eligibility, complete and sign the ID Card Request form, and take the completed form to the Computing Services Help Center to have a new photo taken and a new card produced. A new card number will be assigned in order to prevent fraudulent use of the lost or stolen card.

There is a nonrefundable $30 fee for replacing lost ID Cards. Stolen ID Cards will be replaced free of charge if the cardholder produces a police report or Carnegie Mellon incident report verifying that the card was stolen. Otherwise, it will be treated as a lost card, and the $30 fee will apply.
To obtain a replacement ID Card for a damaged card, the cardholder must maintain card eligibility, complete and sign the ID Card Request form, and take the completed form to the Computing Services Help Center to have a new photo taken and a new card produced. There is a $10 fee to replace a damaged card, provided the original damaged card is surrendered. If the original damaged card is not surrendered, the $30 lost card fee will apply.
Visit ID Card Printing Fees for additional information. Please note that cash is not accepted at the Computing Services Help Center. Fees must be paid by check, credit card, debit card, or student account charge.
